InterMute, Inc., based in Braintree, Massachusetts, develops leading Internet security and content filtering solutions for enterprises and consumers. Founded in 1999, the company’s mission is to bring security, productivity and privacy to the Internet

The company’s reputation is backed by recognition from systems manufacturers, modem manufacturers and OEMs as the leader in corporate- and consumer-user protection from spyware, malware, adware, popups, email spam and inappropriate Internet content.

With nearly 20 million licenses in place for InterMute desktop protection products, the company brings a leadership position to the world of enterprise employee security. The experience and feedback from the company’s large user base has allowed it to identify many more valid additions to its spyware signature database, helping to maintain a high level of product quality.

The company has undergone significant changes in year-end 2004 to ensure the needs of large corporations by acquiring new technologies and establishing notable partnerships. With additional management and resources, InterMute offers substantial value to enterprises – whether they are Fortune 1000 companies, towns, municipalities or academic institutions.

Developed in The Netherlands, CWShredder was acquired by InterMute. CWShredder detects and removes the treacherous spyware program CoolWebSearch.

InterMute’s consumer product lines are available for purchase in major retail outlets and online.

In May 2005, InterMute, Inc. entered into an agreement to be aquired by Trend Micro, Inc.
