Viking
Components Ships AdSubtract to Enhance Wireless Connectivity
AdSubtract
bundled with Viking Cellular Modem to improve wireless
Internet performance
BRAINTREE, MA.
January 16, 2001 - InterMute, Inc., developer of
award winning AdSubtract web-preference
software, today announced that Viking Components,
Inc., one of the world's largest and fastest-growing
manufacturers of upgrade component technology,
has chosen to bundle AdSubtract with Viking's
56K Cellular and Phoneline Ready PC Card Modem.
The integration of AdSubtract boosts Viking's
wireless Internet performance by blocking unwanted
banner ads and Internet cookies that can significantly
slow down web browsing speed. In addition, AdSubtract
protects user privacy by blocking profiling cookies,
which are small text files written to a user's
computer - often without the user's knowledge
or permission - and used to create online user
profiles.
Using the Viking
PC Card Modem, laptop users can connect to the Internet
through today's most popular Nokia® (NYSE: NOK) and Motorola® (NYSE:
MOT) cellular phone handsets, allowing mobile users
to perform traditional modem functions such as accessing
web-based e-mail, checking news and stock reports,
and surfing the Web, from anywhere.
"Our 56K Cellular and Phoneline Ready Modem allows
laptop users to access the Internet without the need
for a phone line. By integrating AdSubtract with
our wireless cellular modem, Viking customers will
enhance their web experience, utilizing bandwidth
that was previously occupied by banner ads," said
Rick Crowe, product manager, Viking Components Inc. "Our
cellular modem with AdSubtract enables professional
mobile users to block ad distractions to better concentrate
on productive Internet browsing from just about anywhere,
even the car or the airport."
"We are thrilled that Viking Components has joined
our growing list of partners. Viking is seriously
committed to improving their customer's web experience
and quickly realized the value AdSubtract provides," said
Ed English, president and CEO of InterMute. "The
combination of Viking's PC Card Modem with AdSubtract
is a powerful tool that provides faster, more productive
and private web surfing for more efficient wireless
connectivity."
The Viking
56K Cellular and Phoneline Ready PC Card Modem (Motorola
handset compatible part number: RFM56KPCMOT, Nokia
handset compatible part number: RFM56KPCNOK) is
now shipping with AdSubtract through resellers
and retailers nationwide at a manufacturer's suggested
retail price of $179.99.
