InterMute and Com21 Partner to Provide Value-add Software Downloads to Cable Modem Users

AdSubtract and ZoneAlarm enhance the Internet experience

BRAINTREE, MA. June 11, 2001 - InterMute, Inc., a developer of award winning AdSubtract™ web-preference software, and Com21, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMTO) , a leading global provider of system solutions for the broadband access market, today announced an agreement to provide InterMute's AdSubtract and Zone Labs' ZoneAlarm™ software to registered users of Com21's DOXport® 1110 cable modem. Under the agreement, InterMute will develop and host the website from which Com21 end-users access the software downloads.

Access to the download site is provided to the end-user when registration of the DOXport 1110 is completed. The site will offer free standard versions of the two software titles, as well as discounted offers for the professional versions.

AdSubtract, InterMute's Internet ad-blocking and cookie management software, recently received a five-star rating from ZDNet Downloads. ZoneAlarm is personal firewall software, created and owned by Zone Labs, a leading creator of Internet technologies and security solutions.

The InterMute and Com21 partnership offers benefits to both companies. Com21 can offer its customers increased speed, security, and privacy on the Internet, while InterMute gains a valuable distribution channel for distributing AdSubtract products.
